The History of the Stratford-upon-Avon Guild

The Stratford-upon-Avon Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers was formed in January 1976, from a class that met weekly at Stratford-upon-Avon College, when it seemed likely that the class would be closed. Everyone was anxious to broaden their interest in the crafts and since then we have had a very dedicated following.

We joined the Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers and this has given us contact with other groups. We have taken part in many demonstrations and study days, including hosting an International Exhibition and a Summer School. We recently wove a Tapestry to celebrate our 25th anniversary and that is now hanging in the reception area of Stratford Hospital. Lectures and workshops have given us a wider interest in related crafts.
